Adopt a Horse
Our goal is to put every rescued horse into a safe and loving home. We pride ourselves on working with our potential adopters to make that possible. Our job is not to judge you but to insure that the horse is placed into a safe and loving environment.
While we do our best to evaluate the horses available for adoption, we rarely have history past when they first came to the rescue. As you work with your adopted horse, you will sometimes find issues that need to be overcome. For this reason, we rarely recommend our horses for true beginners unless they are working with a trainer. We are looking for adopters who are willing to work through those issues with additional training either for your adopted horse or sometimes yourself. These horses have often been thrown away once, twice or multiple times and we want to put them in homes where there is a commitment to them, their safety and their care long term.
What to Expect On Your Journey To Adoption
The first step in the adoption process is to complete the adoption inquiry when you are ready to adopt.
After we receive your inquiry, we will contact you to set up an appointment to meet the horse or horses you are interested in. This is your chance to meet your horse, ride it, groom it and spend as much time as you would like to getting to know it. While we are there to help in any way, we do ask you to groom, tack and handle the horse yourself.
If your horse meets your approval and we all feel like it is a good match, we will verify your information and references. We ask that the adoption fee be paid at this time and that the horse be moved within 7 days. Once you have taken your horse home, you are on a 90 day probationary period where you can return the horse for a full refund. After 90 days, no adoption fee will be refunded.
After you adopt, we ask that you send us an annual picture of your horse. Our adopters are a part of our CVHR family and part of our reward is to see the horses thriving in their homes.
